Ahoy dear scumm,

as the new MI:R parties in March and April are approaching, I’ve added a new Facebook group and events so we all can keep track of everything easier!
The group can be found here:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=233648653298

Alternatively you can also directly visit the event pages:

MI:R 2010 Part1 - Lost Treasures of Mêlée Island
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=279217549545&index=1

MI:R 2010 Part 2 - Rise of the MightyPirate™
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=236372968025&index=1

Also the monkeyislandmemorial.com website will see a major overhaul, but this will still need a bit of time, so the Facebook groups will definitely be the best source for information at the moment!

Hope to see you there and at MI:R!
So far so good, but a lot more is to come!

Pirate Bay For all those of you in Vienna who are starved of pirate parties there is an    upcoming pirate party at one of the MI:M locations - the B.A.C.H next Friday, the 16th of October. The party will feature some of the classic MI activities like an Arrring contest, a pirate dance contest and a costume contest. Note that this is not a successor to MI:R. Still I will be around that night and hopefully see quite a few known faces as well! For more information check out the website: http://www.piratebay.at.

Arrr mateys!

Dearest scumm of all!

First let me thank all of you who attended the Final Monkey Island Revival Party on the 10th of July! It was a breathtakingly fun night with all of you, and I enjoyed every last bit of it! It was a great finishing event for this series of parties that changed and defined my life for the last 2 years.  I dearly hope you will all hold MI:R in very special and fond memories, I will definitely do so forever.

To make the ending even more perfect, the Monkey Island Special Edition team sent us a very lovely greeting video. I thank the whole LucasArts dev team for bestowing such a great honor to me and the whole MI:R team. And you all had a big part, not only in making the MI:R parties so special, but also in reviving one of the greatest games in history! We can all be proud of having supported this change!

Now let’s support the MI:SE development team and grab that very special game once it comes out on the 15th July! Grab ye pieces o’ eight and don’t spend them all on grog for a change - but show that MI is still in our hearts and minds!
Now to the video, enjoy:

Dearest, dirtiest scummbags I’ve ever witnessed!
There are only a few days left until MI:R reaches its final destination - one that it will not return from for a long time.  Tomorrow the new Monkey Island episode will be released by Telltale Games, and thereby our journey finally comes to an end - but definitely a successful end. This circumstance gets the Captain into a grand celebration mood of never before felt generosity and thankfulness, and he would like to share lots of booty with you and drink and be merry with all of you once more. I will have the special honor of personally hosting the night and the games and taking care of you, my guests, with my own hands (and knives, if needs to be…!). Arrrrr!

The night will see lots of MI:R classics like Coconut Bowling or Insult Arm Wrestling, but this time we will pay special attention to all of your music and dancing needs. Additionally you will be able to play “Tales of Monkey Island” and get a hands-on impression of this successor to one of the most inspired adventure games ever created.

Finally once more the details, so you don’t have to strain your hung over minds:

The FINAL Monkey Island Revival Party
10th of July, starting at 20:00
Weberknecht, Lerchenfeldergürtel 49, 1160 Vienna
Pirates only pay 3,-€
Landlubbers will be asked to hand over 5,-€ for looking ridiculously anachronistic
And why not pay a final visit to http://www.monkeyislandmemorial.com
?
It’s all just to easy and cheap to resist!

But don’t fear for your money, there will be more booty than ever for more people than ever.Your visit will pay off in many ways, the Captain swears by his beloved beard!

Finally Captain Toothbrush would like to thank you all for attending MI:R and/or MI:M and making those parties as special as they were. Let’s get together for a last time on Friday and rejoice in all the fond memories and dance, drink, fight and be merry for a final time!

I definitely will do so, and I hope to see you there  bootyhunters!

New Monkey Island episodes called “Tales of Monkey Island” will be released by Telltale in July!

This is a reason to celebrate once more and swing our peglegs on the dancing deck! So for everyone who missed the Memorial Day, enjoyed it or came too short of great activities like Coconut Bowling or great dancing music - the Monkey Island Revival Party is another opportunity to have a swashbuckling night!

The Revival Party will happen on the 10th of July, 20:00 at the Weberknecht (Lerchenfelder Gürtel 49, 1160 Vienna) very close to the U6 station “Josefstädterstraße”. This night will be especially appealing for the dance hungry mob - but we will of course also feature grand activities like Coconut Bowling, Insult Swordfighting or the all new Boneshaker’s Dancing Contest that will see you dancing ’til you die!

Additionally you’ll be able to win free copies of “Tales of Monkey Island” as we cooperate with Telltale Games. Don’t miss this great last opportunity this year to join the only real Monkey Island Party out there! Ahoy mateys, and don’t miss the three headed monkey!

The Final Post Before MI:M

by Captain Toothbrush on May.22, 2009, under pleasure

No Gravatar

Ahoy mateys!

Only one day left before we can once more rule the seas with our grogs, sabres and voices!
Everything is set on course and the islands we are going to visit tomorrow are in sight. We will play loads of exciting games, drink more grog than would be good for any scallywag landlubbers, and raise our voices high in dozens of boat shattering Arrrs!

Once more for people who won free tickets: the guest list is only available at the Bach, Bachgasse 21, 1160. You first need to come there and pick up your pass. Then you are free to do whatever you want.

Also please note that entry at WerkzeugH is free - and that we have our special 6,-€ flat fee for you between 17:00 and 19:30.

As captain of the ship I heartily hit you on the back and raise my grog in honour of your brave travels.
Arrrr and cheers mates!

MI:M Step 3 - Bach

by Captain Toothbrush on May.21, 2009, under memorial day

No Gravatar

The Bach is our second main ship and runs in parallel to the action oriented program at the Derwisch. Our program at the Bach is more strongly focused on music and dancing - with finest selections of Irish Folk/Rock, Ska, Rock and lots of crazy other stuff and an amazing, blood pumping live band - Gasmac Gilmore, which will start playing around 22:30.  Still, there is more to the Bach than dancing and singing:

Oh Mother Source of Grog n’ Toast
At this venue we have a special bar prepared for you that is ready to mix and serve large quantities of Grog. In contrast to the Derwisch, which will only have a limited quantity available. So if you ever run out of Grog, the Bach is just the perfect place to go. Additionally we serve some fresh hot n’ spicy toast, meticulously engineered to meet the nutritional requirements of a hard working sailor.

Pirate Guitar Hero Mutineers’ Edition
A buccaneer variation of a GuitarHero Tournament - specially crafted to meet the mutineering needs of the invading pirates. No tournament registration, no cumbersome setup - just some guy with a guitar. That guy gets challenged until he loses - passing on his Captain’s Guitar to his successor. This goes on and on until no one else wants to challenge or the time has run out. Simple, direct and guaranteed fun.

Insult Arm Wrestling
Yes, the all time classic arm wrestling is having a comeback at MI:M. Just the perfect activity to warm your limp muscles and teach those wannabe pirates a lesson. Of course insulting your opponent not only is allowed, it is also not only recommended, it is vital - to crush your enemy’s spirit and will. You know you can do it. You will show ‘em.

Arrr!ing Superstar Competition
This competition is available at Bach and Derwisch. We all know it, we all do it! Arrr is the one utterance a pirate has to master. A strong, mighty “Arrrr!” induces fear in the enemy and makes them easy targets even before a single blow or shot has fallen. How humiliating is your Arrr? Let the audience decide!

Costume Contest
At around 1 in the morning we will decide who the best dressed pirates are. Just step up to the stage and show all your prowess (but please don’t shock the ladies) to the audience. The assembled mob of pirates will then decide by means of clapping and shouting. The most popular contestant will win. So you have two chances to be succesful : a) be good b) assemble more friends and supporters than the others. Either way is the road to fame! Arrrr!

The Great MI:M Booty Giveaway
Our final activity (next to more drinking and more dancing at Concerto) will be the Great Booty Giveaway. This needs some explanation. When you visit MI:M you will get a program flyer, detailing the proceedings of the evening. Additionally it will contain a page with a pirate pass on which there is room for 8 stamps. Every stamp stands for an activity you participated in (not important if you won something or not) - you will get a stamp for an activity if you ask the respective MI:M crewmember that is hosting that activity. If you have 4 or more stamps on your pirate pass you will be able to take part in the booty giveaway. Mere chance decides who gets the evening’s grand prize and other goodies. Now you know - having fun is not only great, it also earns serious booty - with a little bit of effort and just a little bit of luck.

Afterwards the remaining pirates will move on the Concerto to have a great afterparty.
Enough for now though, you will have to see it for yourself. Go for it pirate!

MI:M Special - Booming Sound System feat. Monkey Island

by Captain Toothbrush on May.18, 2009, under memorial day

No Gravatar

Today I have to announce a special deal our crew was able to strike for you!

In case you buy the MI:M toll you will receive a rubber band to make you immediately identifiable as a pirate. And what is it that pirates are not used? Right! Paying for things they could get for free…  So we arranged everything, kidnapped and bribed some people, threatened to kill someone’s favourite cuddly parrot - and the final result of all this goodness is another special venue you can enter for free (once you paid the MI:M toll of course…).

This special venue is the Weberknecht, which is just a rat-jump away from Derwisch and Concerto (Lerchenfeldergürtel 49, 1160). And of course you do not only get naked walls, but you’re offered a swashbuckling additional program - two dance floors  filled with awesome DJs playing finest bum-shakin’ Drum n’ Bass on one, and heart soothing Reggae/Ragga on the second floor.

Still - please note that you still have to buy a ticket at one of the three main MI:M locations - WerkzeugH/Bach/Derwisch  to have entry to MI:M. But if you already own an MI:M ticket, then the Weberknecht is another venue you should conquer!  I know this makes it even more difficult to decide what to do, but luckily all venues are tightly packed together, so feeling out the waters is no difficulty at all.

Rarely has one ticket been so versatile and powerful! Freedom at your disposal! That’s what we stand for, that’s what I brand marked my shoulder with. Yeah, should have drunk a little less rum that night…

Cheers mateys! Arrrr!

MI:M Step 2 - Derwisch

by Captain Toothbrush on May.17, 2009, under memorial day

No Gravatar

Ahoy mates!

Only 6 days left until MI:M arrives at the harbour! Time to let you know what’s going to happen at our second venue - the Derwisch (Lerchenfeldergürtel 29, 1160, next to U6 station Thaliastraße). Derwisch is our main battle location, so most (but not all) competitions will take place there. Action there starts at 20:00 with the only real Coconut Bowling™ taking place until 21:00. So if you don’t wanna miss this spectacle - coming early is vital!

Furthermore we will offer a range of unique competitions:

Plank Fighting: ever wanted to hold a huge cotton swab and beat something with it? Then Plank Fighting is just right for you. You and your opponent stand on a 4m long plank and try to push the other off.  Easier said than done. A true test of  dexterity.

Drunken Sailor’s Plank Walk: right after Plank Fighting sailors can show how hard-drinking they really are. For real drunken sailors the world is constantly spinning around them, still they are able to walk across a plank without plunging into the sea. So in this competition you can prove that you are spin-resilient as well - get spun three times around yourself and manage to walk across the plank - as often as you can! An extremely important skill for every pirate out there!

Insult Sword Fighting: Now that one is surely known to you! But how does it work in real life? First of all there is a list of insults and comebacks that are allowed, and yes, those are the original ones. You can find them here in English or here in German. Now that we have a common base, the rules are the following: coin decides the starter. Starter gives the first insult, the other gives the comeback. If the comeback is wrong the starter wins, else the one with the comeback. Now the loser of this round takes one step backward, the winner one step forward.  Both combatants have soft rubber sabres in their hands. After the insult-round a fighting-round kicks in. The winner of the insult-round has the first blow (only one). The loser has to parry but may of course also hit the winner. The combatant that is hit has to take a step backward. Then the insult-round kicks in again with the starter switched, and so on until one combatant had to take 3 steps backward in total (falling off the ship). Sounds more complicated than it is. We will demonstrate it to you live at the event! Wit and action combined!

Stan’s Never Before Used Shooting Gallery: in this competition you can show your aiming and accuracy skills! First you have to knock down 9 tin cans if you manage to. If you still have shots left, you may shoot on the bonus board, which has a couple of holes of different sizes. Smaller holes score higher than bigger ones. How courageous and self confident will you be? Good old solid fun!

The Infamous Arrr!ing Superstar Competition: we all know it, we all do it! Arrr is the one utterance a pirate has to master. A strong, mighty “Arrrr!” induces fear in the enemy and makes them easy targets even before a single blow or shot has fallen. How humiliating is your Arrr? Let the audience decide!

Next to all these crazed out activities we offer solid entertainment with two great DJs (DJ Lemming and DJane Jinxx) and a VJ from Bildwerk.

Don’t miss this chance to prove yourself and win loads of booty!
Next in our series I will introduce the Bach to you.

See you on board soon!
